About this page
If you have a call number in the Dewey Decimal classification, but you are looking for a similar call number in the Library of Congress classification, use the links below.
Mapping Dewey Decimal numbers to Library of Congress numbers
Search WorldCat for the book and click-through to library catalogs to see what call number they list. This method may prove more successful for some books than the LC catalog search.
Search by title of the work to find its entry in the LC Catalog in which you may find listed LC call numbers and DD class numbers. Not all books in the LC Catalog will have this information listed, and you may be unable to find recently published works.
On the Library Thing website, you can browse titles using their interactive Dewey Decimal system to narrow down the classification number and see related LCC numbers in the sidebar to the right.
Additionally, you can search LibraryThing by book title and find both DDC and LCC numbers (when available) in the righthand sidebar on the book's webpage.
NOTE: Classify was discontinued on January 31, 2024. OCLC Cataloging and Metadata subscribers can use WorldShare Record Manager or the WorldCat Metadata API, available as part of the subscription, to perform similar searches to find classification numbers.
