SBL Style Guide

Ancient (Primary) Sources

The terms here do not refer to any published editions of these ancient sources. Rather they refer in general to the work or corpus of works that has commonly been labeled with a particular term and abbreviation. Abbreviations for these are found scattered thoughout §8.1 - §8.3 (pages 118-171), along with many other ancient sources such as Philo, Josephus, and various early Christian and Jewish writers.

Abbreviations for ancient primary sources are listed in various places in SBLHS. Alphabetically by full title in §8.4.1 (pages 171-216) and by abbreviation in §8.4.2 (pages 216-260)

Note: titles with an asterisk (*) are not found in SBLHS, but are commonly abbreviated as follows.
