Off campus students have full access to all of Berntsen Library's materials.

Alumni

Alumni of the University of Northwestern – St Paul have access to the Berntsen Library's collections with an alumni card that can be obtained from Alumni Relations at 651-631-5236.

Alumni privileges include the following:

  • Borrowing books from the Berntsen Library’s circulating collections (except curriculum library)
  • Article databases and online resources can be accessed from any of the public workstations at the library.
  • Northwestern audiovisual items can be used in-library on our playback equipment. 
  • Materials from other CLIC libraries are not available to alumni though you may buy visitor privileges at most CLIC libraries. 
  • Interlibrary loan services are available from your local public library.
  • Printing (b&w and color) is $.05 per page.
  • Did you know that your Minnesota public library card provides one-stop access to five statewide library services? Check them out at MnKnows - Dig Deeper @ Your Library.

Visitors

Visitors to the University of Northwestern – St Paul are welcome to use the library’s resources while at the library. For those wanting to check out books, a visitor card may be purchased at the circulation desk for $15/year.  

Visitor privileges include the following:

  • Borrowing books from the Berntsen Library’s circulating collections (except curriculum library) with the purchase of a visitor card.
  • Article databases and online resources can be accessed from any of the public workstations at the library.
  • Northwestern audiovisual items can be used in-library on our playback equipment.

Study Rooms

The Berntsen Library has six study rooms designed to accommodate groups of four to six people. You may reserve a study room online. Reservations are required and can be made in advance or upon claiming an empty room. Whiteboard markers and erasers are available for checkout at the circulation desk.

Silent Study Floor

As a courtesy to others, the upper level of the library is designated for silent study.  Please, limit conversation and silence cell phones. If using headphones, sound must be quiet enough not to disturb those around you.
